Spector guitars

Today there was a Spector guitar for sale at Hello Music.  A couple of Google searches later brought me to the Spector Guitars website, specifically the Spector history page.  The first production model (G-1™) looks like the guitar that Steve Martin is playing in the gatefold of his ‘Wild and Crazy Guy’ album — same picture as ‘King Tut’ single.

Spector is mostly known for bass guitars, but I’ve had a recurring wish for a double-cut with a Floyd Rose.  My earliest memory of this guitar configuration was used by Snake and Scotti from Skid Row.

There are a number of web forum postings that describe the history of the guitars:

The Blackhawk is a rather rare model that consists of a Spector designed neck and body, along with a Floyd rose, one bridge humbucker, and a single coil in the neck position. Scotti Hill and Rachel Bolan of Skid Row were sometimes seen playing one of these. It was designed by Chris Hofschneider in the Kramer Custom Shop (then ran by Stuart Spector), and is now the current guitar tech for Bon Jovi.

Besides a Floyd Rose, other specs include:

  • Maple body
  • Maple bolt-on neck
  • Rosewood fingerboard
  • Seymour Duncan Hot Rails (neck)
  • Seymour Duncan JB (bridge)
  • 25.5″ scale

There are a few other double cut body styles that are available:
